Web pages

Admins only

A web page is made from a template, the same way as a bulletin, and gets a link you can share. It’s laid out to read well on a phone.

  1. Create a template and choose Web page under What is it for? See Bulletins and templates.
  2. Lay it out with blocks, like Page header, Who’s serving, Order of service, Calendar, Table or Follow us. Preview it on a desktop or a phone. See Laying out a template.
  3. Choose the dates under Showing, and Save.
  4. Choose Make page, check the name, and choose Make page again.

Scriblet makes the page, checks it on a desktop and on phones, and proofreads it, just like a bulletin. See If the proofread finds something.

When it’s ready, it may list things to look at, like a block that’s too wide on a phone. People can still read the page by scrolling sideways. To fix it, change the template or shorten the text, then make it again.

Choose Copy link to share the page, or Open to see it.

  • Anyone with the link can see the page, without signing in. Search engines don’t list it.
  • You can email it. On Email, tick the page under Files. It opens in the browser.
  • The link follows the page’s name. Making a page with the same name again replaces the old one and keeps its link, so a link or QR code you’ve already shared shows the new page. Use a new name for a new link.

A page doesn’t change by itself. When the calendar changes, choose Make it again. It keeps its name and its link.

The same goes for links you add to items, and changes to the look: they show once you make the page again.

An item on a page can lead somewhere, like a sign-up form, a flyer or an email. See Adding a link to an item.

A link to one of your own pages, or an email link, opens in the same tab. Anything else opens in a new one.

In a block that shows calendar items, Show an item’s link as chooses between The item’s text and More information after it.

If a link can’t be shown, the editor marks the item “Link not shown” and says why, and Home lists it above the page’s preview. Readers never see the mark. Open Link this… on the item and set the link again.

An automatic link can give an item its link every week, like a hymn’s page for every opening song.

A Table block shows one of your organization’s lists, like the study classes and their rooms. On a phone, each row’s cells stack. Only a list marked Printed bulletins and web pages can go on a page. See Lists.

Each row’s text can lead somewhere, like each class’s name to its study guide:

  1. On Lists, give the list a column of type Links (web addresses or mailto:), and put each row’s address in it.
  2. In the Table block, under Columns to show, choose that column under the class column’s Link to.

A row with no address shows its text alone. If you show the link column itself, its addresses show as plain text. If an address can’t be shown, the editor marks it “Link not shown” and the row shows as plain text.

A Follow us block is a row of channel logos that lead to your organization’s YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

  1. Add a row for each channel. Choose the Channel, and paste its web Address, starting with https://
  2. Call it (optional) replaces the channel’s name with your own words, like “Watch live”.
  3. Under Show, choose Icons only or Icons with names, then an Icon size and how to Line up the row.

A channel with no address is left out. If none has one, the block shows nothing.

Web look sets the colors, fonts, logo and background picture for all your pages.

  • Colors for headings, links, the background and text. Scriblet warns you if text would be hard to read.
  • Fonts for headings and text.
  • Logo at the top of every page: a PNG, JPEG or WebP picture, up to 5 MB. Under How the logo sits, choose Small mark above the page for a crest or wordmark, or Banner across the top for a picture as wide as the page, at least twice as wide as it is tall. Choose how it sits before you upload: changing it means uploading again.
  • Background picture, faint behind everything on every page: a PNG, JPEG or WebP picture, up to 5 MB. How strongly it shows sets how faint, from 5% to 50%.

The logo and background picture are saved as soon as you choose them. For colors and fonts, choose Save. Pages you make from then on use the new look. Use Scriblet’s look puts the colors and fonts back to Scriblet’s own, and keeps your logo and background picture.

Delete it from Documents. Its link, in emails already sent, on a website or in a QR code, then says it’s no longer available.
